State Highway 1 four laning project underway

The upgraded access to Dakota Park and the airport is now underway with the project stretching from Dakota Park to Mustang Park (Harewood Road).The relocation of services and initial ground work has started at the Memorial Avenue and Russley Road intersection.


This current design will significantly improve the access to Dakota Park as shown below:

We believe this will give Dakota Park the best direct access to State Highway 1 of any industrial park in Christchurch.



Elldex Business Sold to Coveris

Hellaby Holdings has recently announced the sale of all its companies in the Hellaby Packaging division, being Elldex Packaging’s New Zealand and Australian business, to Coveris.Coveris is one of the of the world’s largest flexible and rigid packaging groups.CIAL and Elldex are close to completing their new factory in Dakota Park.It was this purpose designed building and high-tech manufacturing plant that originally attracted the attention of Coveris when they were looking for a business in the Australasian area.

Spitfire Square Underway

Another fantastic benefit for Dakota Park is the construction of Spitfire Square, now well underway and due for completion later this year. Spitfire Square is only a few minutes’ drive or a short walk from Dakota Park and will provide many services for airport tenants and staff.

Spitfire Square will include a Countdown supermarket, café, bar/restaurant, fast-food outlets, and more shops to come. This will help service the 6,000 staff and 30,000 visitors on the airport campus each day.



Maccaferri is now Geofabrics

 Geofabrics Australasia Pty Ltd has recently increased its shareholding in Maccaferri NZ Limited from 85% to 100%.This has initiated a change of name to Geofabrics New Zealand Limited.This change underlines the strength of the Geofabrics Group as the leading regional manufacturer and provider of geosynthetic solutions to the civil, infrastructure, mining and water and waste construction industries.



SB Logistics Grand Opening

SB Logistics’ new $10 million facility in Dakota Business Park was officially opened by Prime Minister John Key on Thursday 27th November.Steve Bateman, Director of SB Global Logistics, was quoted in The Press saying “this is not about growth in relation to the Christchurch rebuild, although there is a bit of that.It is about our genuine confidence in Christchurch and the South Island”.The purpose built facility brings all of the company’s activities in Christchurch and its 55 staff under one roof, with the ability to expand.

Elldex Packaging Update

Dakota Park is now well into the construction of Elldex Packaging Solution’s new building on George Bellew Road.This new facility is an exciting step for Elldex and Dakota Park.This factory will be the first purpose built flexible packaging factory constructed in New Zealand for many years.The expected date for completion is May 2015.The main warehouse is 8.5 metres to the knee, then up to 20 metres at its highest point.

New Planting

Over the past few months Propel, CIAL’s in-house maintenance group, has completed planting required as part of the resource consent for Dakota Park. This involved approximately 5,000 plants of many different varieties. The area includes the length of the Southern Boundary, Recall, SB Logistics and Ron Guthrey Road.

Maccaferri move to Dakota Park

Maccaferri is an engineering firm that can trace its roots back to 1550 and are credited as being the inventor of the modern Gabion Basket. Maccaferri NZ has relocated from Wairakei Road to their new facility in Dakota Park. The new building has a 1,200sqm warehouse and 200sqm office. The warehouse is 7.5 metres to the knee with LED lighting throughout. The offices are north facing with LED lighting as well as a great courtyard for staff. This fantastic location will allow Maccaferri to supply their innovative building and engineering products to the wider Canterbury region as well as the South Island. 



New tenant for Dakota Park

Elldex Packaging Solutions is Dakota Park’s latest tenant. They will be moving from their current location at Sturrocks Road, Papanui. Construction has recently commenced on their 4,500sqm building with completion due in February 2015. The new building is located at the south western end of George Bellew Road. Elldex Packaging Solutions manufactures a range of packaging products. The building will be 20 metres high, to house one of the largest extruding and converting manufacturing plants in New Zealand.
